Can pigs save us? Is this the start animal to human transplants? Or even human-pig hybrids? It seems like this scenario may well be the situation as a result of a current scientific breakthrough. According to an article inside the Telegraph within the U.K., scientists in Melbourne, Australia used a ventilator and pump towards the animal lungs to make sure they’re breathing while human blood flowing through them. And this system worked the same as lungs do by sending blood without oxygen in the lungs which arrived on the scene as blood with oxygen. Presumably, this method might help humans who may have lost using their lungs and need some help from our animal friends.
The scientists considered this procedure a substantial breakthrough after experimenting with combining pig lungs and human blood for 20 years. But repeatedly, they encountered failure because blood clots formed presently which blocked further blood circulation. So about two years ago, the experiments ended. So what made the pig-human breakthrough for breathing possible? Well, that is the part that brings up many ethical issues. The scientists added human DNA to the pigs while they were raised, which reduced the clotting along with the rejection of lungs from the human host.
Thus, the experiment worked. But that raises ethical questions as if the pigs have human DNA, do you know the implications for society? Even medical ethicists, for example, Professor Nicholas Tonti-Filippini Associate Professor on the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Melbourne, have expressed concerns, since, according to Tonti-Filippini, adding the DNA results in a “human-pig” or hybrid. The potential for such research is mind-boggling. For example, maybe if you have slightly DNA, this may still be a pig, though which has some human characteristics, a little like topping coffee using a dash of cream. But while you add more plus much more DNA, perhaps to work with other pig organs in humans, does the pig become something more important, a little like turning a cup of regular coffee into a cappuccino or latte? And perhaps with increased DNA, the pig usually takes on distinctly human characteristics, including having the capacity to talk or read.
Years ago, within the book Animal Farm, George Orwell imagined a farm with talking pigs, where there happen to be filmed with talking pigs, especially the 2019 Babe starring James Oliver Cromwell. But those works were just fantasies in the past, employed to create a kind of parallel arena of animals with human characteristics to tell us something about your society. But now that is real. Scientists can generate pigs that might seem increasingly human. Maybe the pigs could even be able to utilize computers and type out messages with large keyboards. So who knows? You might think you happen to be reaching and in many cases arranging a date with someone you imagine is often a dream date, but they are a pig! And no pun intended – because this is the real deal.
And if this … Read More
